In 1995.I launched Straight Thinking in magazine format. I gained subscriptions by word of mouth and by promoting the publication at conferences and similar venues where I presented papers on topics which would be followed up within the pages of Straight Thinking magazine.

My plan was to take a few years to build a small but solid subscriber base and then find a joint venture partner to properly launch the magazine into the market.

The plan was fine but the timing wrong. The magazine is now well known and I have a band of loyal subscribers but just when I should be seeking a publishing house as a partner almost all such magazines are abandoning print production in favour of the world wide web. Indeed I now have many for requests for my web page address than for the magazine itself.

I can now reach a larger audience through the web. I also have my weekly short essays in the National Business Review (link) where Straight Thinkers will find me engaged in the battle against conventional wisdom wherever it may be found.

So here we are ­ fully wired at last.

If you are a subscriber to Straight Thinking please look at the expiry number on the label of your last issue; email us with the number and we shall refund any outstanding amount.

Of course, it costs money to set up and operate a web page but it costs a good deal less than publishing and posting out a magazine to a small subscriber list.

More importantly it is now clear that I can reach a larger audience through this medium.

This page also allows me to disseminate some of the papers and reports I have written which have been too large for my columns or for the magazine.
