on the Kaipara Harbour Live in a park and let others do the work.
There is no body corporate - just a simple contract with the Company.
The River Terrace is only one and half hours from an office door in Queen Street.
Now read all about it -- we'll have some photos on this web page soon, but you're welcome to browse an online gallery of River Terrace photos at webshots.com in the meantime.
The major area of bush in the ravine at the top of the property has been covenanted as protected bush area. Bush walks provide access to the bottom of the ravine and with its wonderful stands of nikau, fern, kahikatea and totara.
The lower terraces have sites for five chalets, each on their own 1900 sq m (1/2 acre) site, offering total visual and aural privacy and with their own areas of garden and bush. These chalets maintain an architectural theme New Zealand vernacular combined with Japanese structure and detail.
You can park your kayaks or small dinghies at the bottom of the property. A yacht and fishing boats are available for charter. Our near neighbours run an equestrian centre and provide horseback riding (you can ride through the park) and overnight camping trips in the area.
The Garden Cottage has been designed for the discriminating "weekender" who may plan permanent occupation in the longer term. Hence, the present design provides for the easy addition of an additional bedroom/bathroom wing to provide for a permanent residence with generous guest and office accommodation. (See floor plans) A top quality solar heating high pressure hot water system means that electricity is not wasted when the cottage is unoccupied. A microprocessor controlled pump delivers high pressure water to the whole house. The generous basement provides a useful storage area for gardening tools and other items. The generous two car carport is served by a driveway with a turnaround so that there is no need to back trailers.
The joinery is made of top quality cedar sashes in kwila frames, with brass hinges and non corroding stays. The beams, rafters and ceilings are all macrocarpa, oil finished, to provide a light OScandinavian' rustic finish. The floors are eucalyptus glued secret nailed, and finish coated with a satin urethane.
High quality materials, fixtures and equipment have been selected and put together within an architectural format which combines the relaxed atmosphere of a country cottage with elegance, quality and comfort.
Kaiwaka is one and a quarter hour's drive from central Auckland. Kaiwaka is an important junction the road to the East leads to the beach settlement of Maungawhai while Oneriri Road leads to the shores of the Kaipara Harbour and to the River Terrace itself. Kaiwaka has an excellent supermarket for a town of its size while the Windmill Delicatessen specialises in goods from Holland -- cheese, wine, coffee and other specialty foodstuffs.
The excellent golf club at Maungawhai is only twenty minutes from the River Terrace. Maungawhai is a beach settlement with an excellent surf beach patrolled by life guards. However, if you seek solitude, Te Arai point is a huge beach with a natural bathing pool in the rocks and a few miles of surf beach which is normally empty or occupied by only a few people. Dogs are allowed on Te Arai beach at any time of year and day provided they are under control.
The River Terrace is close to an all-tide public boat ramp on the Otamatea River which is the centre for fishing and scalloping on the Kaipara Harbour.
